Presenting the human washing machine

April 17, 2009

The human washing machine – sounds like the name of a football player or boxer – someone that can clean your clock, but it’s not, it’s an actual uhm, human washing machine.

I guess showering and bathing are too much for some people, so the fine folks at Avant Beauty Machine and Natural Cosmetics have come up with a contraption that is part washer, part coffin, designed to wash the body and can also provide the encapsulated occupant with a steam treatment, “Sound Therapy,” Aromatherapy, a seaweed treatment and body lotion along with a few other options which sound strange and not exactly safe. What exactly is a “Far Infrared Heat & Steam?”

Only the body is covered in the appliance, the head part is left free, sort of like a reverse cat scan. I guess submerging one’s head into the human washer would be both dangerous and terrifying, but then that still leaves the perplexing problem of how to get one’s hair clean? Keep an eye on Avant; they might have a solution to that problem soon.

But seriously, it seems like the machine does have some practical applications, as pointed out by a blog post for CNET Asia.

“Despite the foreign-sounding name, this cleaning machine is made in Japan and actually has altruistic uses for those who are either bedridden or handicapped,” writes Juniper Foo on the CNET Blog post about the Avant Santelubain 999.

For all those regular folks out that are just fine with showering thank you, APWagner sells appliance parts for your Maytag Washer, Whirlpool Washing Machine and many others. Check out all the washing machine appliance parts we carry.

You can also get repair help to fix your washing machine (that would be the non-human one again.) We have lots of helpful folks over at our appliance repair forum, many which have been in the appliance repair business for years, so feel free to post your washing machines repair questions. It’s free.

Why are the wash temperatures incorrect on my Maytag Washer?

March 26, 2009

Make sure that the water fill hoses are hooked up correctly, not

reversed. Verify that the correct temperature setting was selected. Your household water supply temperatures can have a very big effect on the wash water temperature. The temperature of the water can be influenced by the local climate, the room temperature where the hot water heater or washer is located, or by the thermostat settings of the hot water tank itself. You may have to adjust your hot water heater settings accordingly for the weather where you live.

If someone else is using hot water in the home at the same time, the Maytag washer parts may not receive the hot water it’s calling for. The best thing is to make sure the washer is full before using hot water elsewhere in the home.

The hot selection on the control panel causes only hot water from the hot water heater to enter the washer, while warm is the hot and cold water from the house mixing in the water-inlet valve body. Cold is just the cold water from the house.

If your washer has a temperature sensor inside, you may hear the water-inlet valve opening and closing several times to ensure the water temperature is within the temperature range that has been selected.

This is good general advice for all brands of washers including Whirlpool Washing Machine Parts and other brands of washers.

Common problems with range vent hoods

March 16, 2009

Here are a few problems range vent hoods have and some answers on how to fix them:

Why is there no power to my range vent hood at all?

Fan and Light Switch Kit Maytag 12001128 -Sale price: $28.71

Most range vent hoods are designed to be wired directly into the household power supply, so if you have no power, check your fuse box or circuit breaker panel.

Why doesn’t my range vent hood fan work?

If the light is coming on, but the fan isn’t, your problem is with the fan switch or the fan motor. You can access these from under the hood, without removing it. Check the fan switch (in the on position) for continuity. If there is continuity, then replace the fan motor.

Why is my vent fan running at only one speed?

The first thing to check are the filters on your range vent hood. If these are full of grease, they could stop the flow of air and the fan may sound like it is only running at one speed. Once your filters are clean, you can check the fan switch and the fan motor to see if they are the problem. You can get to these from under the hood, without removing it.

Why is my fan moving air, but it’s not going outside?

Many vent hoods circulate air, but not all push the air outside of the home. You can tell if yours is a circulate-only, a vent-type hood, or a convertible hood by close examination of it.

Models with vent openings near the top front that the air blows through could be a circulate-only type of hood or a convertible type hood.

Models that have duct work coming out the top or back are probably a vent-type hood. Close examination will reveal what type you have.

If your hood has the vents in the front and the metal ductwork, then it is convertible. Careful inspection of the control panel may show a switch or lever to change where the range vent hood directs the air.

FixIT: Burners do not work on gas stove

March 10, 2009

Make sure you have turned the knob to the light position first. Then turn the

Burner Knobs Maytag 12200034 - Sale price: $39.06

Burner Knobs Maytag 12200034 - Sale price: $39.06

knob to the desired heat setting after you have a flame. If you have recently cleaned your range, are you sure everything is dry? Moisture may prevent the electric ignition from working properly. If you hear clicking when the burner is supposed to be off, make sure the knob is turned all the way to off, and that the knob has popped out.

Gas Range burners are round and have small holes evenly placed around

their perimeter. These holes allow gas to flow out and create a controlled flame when lit. Sometimes the gas orifices get plugged and the gas can’t get through to be ignited. The trick is to clean them without making the holes any bigger. You need to clean the burners thoroughly. Many people use a toothpick, old toothbrush, or a small pin to clear the holes, allowing the gas to flow freely. If, after cleaning the burners, they still don’t light, you should call a professional appliance repair person.

Sometimes ranges have different size burners on them. If you have recently

cleaned the burners, it is possible you put a small burner cap on the large burner, or vice versa. Double check to make sure this isn’t the problem, and make sure they are seated properly.

How to extend the life of your appliance

December 12, 2008

I’ve blogged about this in the past, however when it comes to extending the life of your household appliances and saving money, I think it’s a topic that bears repeating.

ConsumerReports.org has a list of excellent tips on how to extend the life of your appliance. Even if you have a brand new appliance, this is an excellent list to review. You might pick up some tips on how to correctly use or maintain your appliance which will make it function better, last longer and possibly save you money by running in a more energy efficient manner.

Some of the appliance-saving tips mentioned in the article include advice for ranges, dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, and clothes dryers. Among the tips mentioned were: make sure that screens on washing machines (there is a screen located where the hoses attach to the water supply) and clothes dryers (lint screen) are cleaned regularly. Make sure that oven and refrigerator door gaskets fit properly, so they seal correctly. Read the entire article: “Help appliances live longer,” from ConsumerReports.org.

Despite your best efforts, your appliance will eventually break down. Sometimes a repair is easy to do and you can order the appliance replacement parts you need online. They will arrive quickly (most often in 1-2 days) and you can be on your way to fixing your own appliance. Check out my past blog entries, I have lots of appliance repair tips and help on a variety of topics.

How do you find the correct part for your appliance?

Finding the correct part for your appliance can seem daunting. Here are some easy tips to help you. First, find the model number of your appliance. This is on a stamped piece of metal or sticker somewhere on your appliance.

To locate it, use this page as a guide on where to look for your model number on your appliance.

Your appliance model numbers can be made up of numbers or a combination of both letters and numbers. Be sure to copy down the number in FULL. Since this can be a long number, take care and double check it against the tag on the appliance.

If you have your owner’s manual, why not just get the model number off of that? The reason you do not want to do this is because sometimes the manual is used with several different models of appliances, that is why it is VERY IMPORTNANT to get the model number directly off of the appliance itself.

After finding, copying and double checking the model number of your appliance, visit http://www.apwagner.com and use the Part Finder to find the part or parts you need for your appliance. Enter your model number in the text box where it says “Do you know the model number of your appliance?”

Some other tips to keep in mind (don’t worry, these tips will be repeated on the results page once you conduct a model number search.)

  • Try entering only the first four or five characters of your model number.
  • Eliminate dashes, periods, slashes and other special characters from your search.
  • Make sure you get the model number off the appliance itself and NOT your owner’s manual. The model number on your appliance contains information in the model number that is specific to the appliance you own, including color. You may own a model that was produced in different series. Therefore, to insure that you are buying the correct part, always go by the model number found on your appliance.
  • Zeroes and the letter “O” are sometimes difficult to tell apart. Replace any “O”s with zero or do the reverse in order to change your search results.
  • Try using zero instead of a dash.

Using the model number on the APWagner.com website, you will be present with a list of the correct parts for your appliance.

The model number will lead you to a list of the correct parts you need in order to repair your electric stove, repair your refrigerator, repair your washer or repair your clothes dryer.

APWagner.com sells New, OEM Appliance parts for air conditioners, refrigerators, electric and gas stoves, washers and more.
